The Plaque Art Process

Dry-mounting

LaminART mounts all images onto medium density fiberboard (MDF) using various types of acid free adhesives. Dry mounting is a method by which heat is applied and the adhesive activates and bonds the print to the substrate, in this case the MDF.

Laminating

The thin laminate film is applied to the surface once the print is dry-mounted to the MDF. The laminate also uses heat to seal down onto the print. It is rated to 80% UV protection and has a matte finish to it (non-glare). The matte finish is more scratch resistant than glossy laminates and it is also highly water resistant. Therefore, damp cloths may be used to clean and dust the finished product.

Edge Colours

The process is not complete until the edge colour has been applied. This beveled edge is applied to the edge of the MDF, accenting the print and the various colours within it. The finished product is a transformed print ready to hang as art on your wall. The process is designed to last for a lifetime and the cost is a fraction of traditional framing.

The Plaque Art Styles

Lite

The lite is the standard plaque mount on 3/8" medium density fiberboard (MDF). It is mounted, laminated, and then the coloured edge and bevel is applied.

Float

The float is similar to the Lite in that it is mounted onto MDF and then laminated and the edge colour and bevel is applied. The difference in this is that the image is mounted onto 1/4" MDF and then a 3/4" frame is mounted onto the back. The frame is 2" inside the outer dimensions of the image board and can be hung on the wall from the frame. This gives the 3D illusion of the image "floating" off the wall.

Lux

The Lux is a "larger than life" version of the Lite. This product has a finished size of 1" thick rather than the 3/8" thickness of the Lite. In order to limit the weight of the piece, the image is mounted onto a 1/4" board and a 3/4" frame is mounted flush to the edges of the image. The coloured edge and bevel is then applied to give the image a big bold finished look.

Lex

The Lex is a prestigious way to finish certificates and photos. This process has two boards, both finished with laminate, a bevel, and edge colour. The first board, the base, is a 3/8" board with a mat paper mounted to it. This board is bigger in size, typically 3" giving a 1.5" border of mat paper visible all around, than the top board which holds the image. The top board has the image mounted to it and is 1/4" thick to reduce the overall weight.
